RideGuard is built to keep riders connected and families informed — but technology is only one layer of safety. This policy outlines the standards we hold ourselves and our community to.

⚠️
RideGuard is an assistive monitoring tool — not a substitute for helmets, supervision, or safe riding practices. In any emergency, call 911 first.

Our Safety Commitment
At RideGuard, safety isn't a feature — it's the foundation. We build every part of the app with one goal: giving families the visibility and tools they need to ride with confidence. That means real-time awareness for parents, independence for riders, and a shared understanding of what responsible riding looks like.
This policy outlines what we expect from every parent, guardian, and rider in the RideGuard community, and what you can expect from us in return.
⛑️
Required Safety Gear
All riders using RideGuard-connected vehicles must wear appropriate protective gear before every ride. The following are non-negotiable:
Full-face or certified helmet
Must meet DOT, CPSC, or equivalent safety standard for the vehicle type
Required
Closed-toe shoes or boots
No sandals, flip-flops, or bare feet while operating any vehicle
Required
Knee and elbow pads
Especially for younger riders and off-road environments
Recommended
Gloves
Provides grip and protects hands in a fall
Recommended
High-visibility or brightly colored clothing
Increases rider visibility to other vehicles and pedestrians
Recommended
👶
Age and Supervision Requirements
👨👧
Under 13
Must ride only in designated areas under direct adult supervision. A parent or guardian must be physically present at the ride location.
🧑
Ages 13–15
May ride independently within parent-approved Safe Zones. Guardian must have RideGuard live tracking active at all times during the ride.
🧑🦱
Ages 16–17
May ride with more autonomy within agreed boundaries. RideGuard monitoring and check-in alerts are strongly recommended.
✅
18 and Over
Full riding autonomy. May choose to share location with family. Responsible for their own compliance with local laws and regulations.
📍
Safe Zones and Speed Limits
We encourage every family to configure Safe Zones and speed limits in the RideGuard app before any ride begins. These tools work best when they're set up in advance — not after an incident occurs.
✅
Set Safe Zones before the first ride
Define home, school, parks, and approved riding areas as Safe Zones. You'll receive an instant alert the moment a rider enters or exits any boundary.
⚡
Set speed alerts appropriate for the rider's age and vehicle
We recommend a 20 MPH limit for riders under 13, 30 MPH for ages 13–15, and a limit agreed upon by guardian and rider for older teens. All limits should comply with local laws.
⚠️
Alerts are best-effort — not guaranteed
Speed alerts and geofence notifications depend on GPS accuracy, connectivity, and battery. They may be delayed or missed. Always have a backup check-in plan with your rider.
🚨
Emergency Situations
RideGuard includes a one-tap SOS feature that immediately alerts all family members with the rider's live location. Here's how to use it correctly:
Hold the SOS button for 3 seconds to trigger an emergency alert. This prevents accidental activation.
All guardians in your family circle will receive a push notification with the rider's exact GPS coordinates immediately.
Always call 911 first in a life-threatening emergency. RideGuard SOS is a family notification tool — it does not contact emergency services on your behalf.
Parents should confirm emergency contact details and ensure all family members know how to use the SOS feature before a ride begins.
🚨
RideGuard does not contact 911
In a medical emergency or serious accident, call 911 or your local emergency number immediately. Do not wait for a RideGuard alert to trigger a response.
✅
Responsible Riding Standards
Every rider and guardian in the RideGuard community agrees to uphold these standards:
Obey all local laws — riding ordinances, traffic rules, speed limits, and age requirements vary by location. You are responsible for knowing and following the laws where you ride.
Never ride distracted — phones should be mounted and in Do Not Disturb mode while riding. RideGuard runs in the background — there is never a reason to look at your phone while moving.
No stunts in unsanctioned areas — wheelies, jumps, and other tricks should only be performed in designated areas with proper supervision and protective gear.
Maintain your vehicle — check brakes, tires, battery, and lights before every ride. A malfunctioning vehicle is a safety hazard regardless of what RideGuard detects.
Ride within your skill level — new riders should start slow in open, safe areas. Speed and difficulty should increase gradually with experience and guardian approval.
Never ride under the influence — operating any vehicle under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any impairing substance is prohibited and illegal.
👨👩👧
Parent and Guardian Responsibilities
A parent or guardian who sets up a RideGuard family takes on the following responsibilities:
Ensuring every rider they add has been informed that their location and ride data will be shared with the family.
Setting appropriate Safe Zones and speed limits for each rider's age and experience level before rides begin.
Verifying that all riders have proper safety gear before leaving home.
Maintaining an active device with push notifications enabled so alerts are received in real time.
Having a clear emergency plan — including knowing who to call and how to reach the rider's location — that does not depend solely on RideGuard functioning.
Reviewing ride history and safety scores regularly and using them as the basis for conversations about safe riding habits.
🔋
Device and App Requirements
For RideGuard to function as intended, please ensure the following before every ride:
The rider's phone has at least 20% battery at the start of a ride — or is charging on the vehicle.
Location permissions are set to "Always Allow" so tracking continues in the background.
The phone has a cellular or data connection — GPS and alerts depend on connectivity. Offline areas will have gaps in tracking.
The RideGuard app is updated to the latest version for the most accurate crash detection and alert logic.
Push notifications are enabled on both the rider's and guardian's devices.
